About Us

The Green Burial Site is managed as a meadow, the grass mown two or three times a year, allowing wild flowers to flourish. The cuttings take place after the flowering period allowing natural regeneration.

Path ways will be cut to allow access to the grave areas as the grass grows in the early summer. The site is surrounded by a native hedge of mixed trees and copses of larger trees to attract wildlife. These help to provide shelter and blend in with the natural Norfolk landscape.

No permanent memorials are permitted, but a wooden cross or marker will be provided after the interment for a period of 12 months until after the first anniversary. This will then be removed to allow the cutting of the grass to be unhindered and to return to the concept of green burials. Wild flowers will be encouraged to grow on the graves.

The NAR VALLEY GREEN BURIAL SITE is nondenominational, people of differing faiths are all welcome. Coffins must be made of wood or other biodegradable material (cardboard, wicker, etc). Consulting a Funeral Director is recommended to help to carry out the funeral with dignity and to the highest professional standard. One of the trustees of the site is a Funeral Director and is available to offer advice.
